Madness To Creation

Where Insanity and Creativity Collide!

(Concert Review) OF MICE & MEN Live at Warehouse Live in Houston, Texas (10/15/2019)

Of Mice & Men at Warehouse Live on October 15, 2019

It was a muggy night in Houston as Of Mice & Men with special guests For The Fallen Dreams, Thousand Below, and Bloodbather took the stage at Warehouse Live in Houston, Texas.

Broward County’s own Bloodbather opened up “The Earth Tour”.  They are composed of Jeffrey Georges, Matt Stokes, and Kyler Millo.  They brought the intensity and energy to get the crowd ready for Thousand Below.

Thousand Below brought the emotion and atmospheric elements to their 25 minute set.  They recently released their album entitled “Gone In Your Wake” via Rise Records.  I felt that this band was more of an acquired taste, but they held their own during their brief set.

For The Fallen Dreams provided direct support for Of Mice & Men.  They brought the confidence and their swagger to Warehouse Live.  The trade-off between the growls/screams and clean vocals were definitely a highlight for the band’s set while the arrangements sound anthemic in one breath and downright filthy in the next breath.  They definitely got the crowd warmed up for Of Mice & Men on this hot evening in Houston.

It’s muggy outside and almost as muggy inside as the crowd starts to grow. I haven’t seen Of Mice & Men since right after Austin left. They were making one of only a few last stops in Houston, TX at Warehouse Live and I was kind of curious how it was going to go.  I expected the four guys in Of Mice and Men to come out and have Aaron Pauley come out and just rock out with a bass in hand. This wasn’t the case. While it is 100% possible to swing that long hair around with instrument in tow it just always seems almost too much to play instruments, swing hair, and go crazy the way you expect this band to go. All this to say, Aaron was free to move about the stage and put forth all his energy into a microphone and the crowd. Read Soudani covered for Aaron’s bass lines through the show. The two original members left in drummer “Tino” Ateaga and lead guitarist Phil Manasala came with rhythm guitarist Alan Ashby and provided a flawless performance. It’s truly incredible how these distorted songs sound so crisp when they are on stage. It’s been 10 years since I first heard these guys. There’s been changes and it still doesn’t matter. The consistency that they bring live is undeniable. Good music on an album, check. Insane energy in a live show, check. While “The Earth Tour” is coming to an end they did just released “Earthandsky” so you can be sure that one way or another they will be stopping back through the states, as well as the world!
