Madness To Creation

Where Insanity and Creativity Collide!

(Album Review) “Sphere” by MONKEY3

2 min read

Recently, there was first photographic evidence of one of I presume many black holes in the universe.  With the April 12th release of “Sphere”, Swiss natives Monkey3 offered up a soundtrack to the black hole and astrophysics.

With this release, I was immediately awestruck with how carefully crafted each note that Monkey3 played on “Sphere”.  The riffs sound otherworldly and the programming and synths make it sound like a voyage to the nether regions of the universe.   The thing that impresses me about Monkey3 is that they have patience in their arrangements.  They carefully craft each note to construct the story that is “Sphere”.

Usually in prog bands or instrumental bands, there seems to be one musician in the band that stands out and the rest of the band serves as the backup.  It is different with Monkey3 in the sense that each note is carefully crafted and the instruments blend so well together to construct that story of exploring the nether regions of the universe.  “Sphere” is one of those albums where you listen intently because you don’t want to miss out on a note in the music.  Madness To Creation rates “Sphere” by Monkey3 a 9 out of 10 stars.  Here is the track listing below:

  1.  Spirals
  2.  Axis
  3.  Prism
  4.  Mass (featuring Bumblefoot)
  5.  Ida
  6.  Ellipsis
