(Mental Health Conversations): Bri Cowgill of BEAUTY IS BETRAYAL

Editor’s Note:  Recently, Sacramento, California’s own Beauty Is Betrayal released their music video for “D.A.R.E.”.  In this music video, they combine elements of horror, theatrics, comedy, a little bit of pop and a whole lot of metal into their unique sound.  They definitely have their own sound.  Beauty Is Betrayal is composed of Bri Cowgill on vocals, Johnny Badbones(ex-Burn Halo) on drums, Ryan Frost(Burn Halo) on guitars, Alex Lovato on guitars and Jaden Daniels on bass.  Beauty Is Betrayal has shared the stage with Escape The Fate, Motionless In White, and New Years Day.  In this mental health conversation with Madness To Creation, Bri Cowgill of Beauty Is Betrayal discusses their music video for “D.A.R.E.”, mental health awareness, and performing live.  Fans can find Beauty Is Betrayal at the following locations:

Madness To Creation:  You’ve released the music video for “D.A.R.E.”, take us into the band’s shenanigans and what were a few things that inspired the music video.

Bri Cowgill:  The music video was inspired by our song. We wanted to take people on a really bad acid trip from hell; especially, if you have bad taste in drugs.

Madness To Creation:   In terms of horror, theatrics, and comedy, give us your favorites in each genre.

Bri Cowgill:  The Leprechaun, Godspell, and anything with Jim Carrey.

Madness To Creation:  Your band has shared the stage with the likes of Escape The Fate, After The Burial and Hed P.E., favorite thing about playing live, and did you get to meet any of the bands?

Bri Cowgill:  I can’t speak for the whole band on this one, but my favorite part playing live is the people who show up. It’s seeing the moshing go on, because people are fired up & having fun. We’ve been fortunate to meet some really cool people from the bands we’ve played with, and made a few friends a long the way.

Madness To Creation:  Favorite moment playing live and most humbling moment playing live.

Bri Cowgill:  Best live moment: Every show we play there is usually something going on that makes tops each one. The recent one that comes to mind was in Reno, NV. We’re almost positive that Alex had the plague. He looked like dehydrated Sponge Bob, but he slayed the live show without missing a note. I don’t know how he did it, but his commitment is something to admire.

Most Humbling moment: I usually have a moment to let people know about my disability, and how it’s possible to do what you love. After I said what I had to say, I saw this crutch rise up from the sea of people in excitement. The conversation that followed at our merch table was a memory I’ll keep forever.

Madness To Creation:  2020 has been a crazy year, what’s the biggest lesson that 2020 has taught you?

Bri Cowgill:  Simple; Never give up, and never surrender.

Madness To Creation:  We cover mental health awareness at Madness To Creation, what gets you through when time gets difficult?

Bri Cowgill:  Well, I would love to say weed & medication. However, those are temporary bandaids for the wound. Besides the obvious help of music, I have to say what really gets me through is my faith & journaling.

Madness To Creation:  If someone wrote a biography about you and you had to pick this person to narrate it who would it be?

Bri Cowgill:  Ron Burgundy

Madness To Creation:  What’s next for Beauty is Betrayal?

Bri Cowgill:  Continue to say one level above the Devil & take it one step at a time.

And there you have it!  Check out Beauty Is Betrayal on Spotify including their killer cover of “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry!  Give them a few streams for the holiday season!
