Editor’s Note: It was a great time sitting down with frontman Kristof Bathory of industrial metal band Dawn Of Ashes for Madness To Creation. Out of Los Angeles, California, Dawn Of Ashes have been creating and redefining industrial metal since 2001 by incorporating aggrotech/terror EDM and industrial black metal into their sound. Their music explores the concepts of horror and perversion while exploring the concepts of organized religion in general. They released “The Antinomian” on July 10th via Artoffact Records and this band is for fans of 3Teeth, Ministry, Fear Factory and Skinny Puppy. In this interview with Madness To Creation, Kristof of Dawn Of Ashes discusses “The Antiomen”, coping with the Covid-19 pandemic and mental health. Fans can find Dawn Of Ashes at the following locations:
Madness To Creation: How have you been coping with 2020 as a whole?
Kristof: I’m still proactive, busy, and focused on self progression. Nothing much has changed for me.
Madness To Creation: How has the band adjusted their social media accounts given the Covid-19 pandemic?
Kristof: Social Media has been tricky for the last few years, so nothing much has changed besides not being able to tour. I feel that more people are online than they were before but their minds are so flooded with so much media bullshit that they forget about the greater things such as music.
Madness To Creation: Dawn of Ashes has released “The Antinomian” on July 10th, take us into the writing and recording process of the album. What have been the most challenging and rewarding aspects behind creating “The Antinomian”?
Kristof: All of the challenge were something I accepted and wanted to go face to face with. My focus was to write an album that emulated a 90’s sound while keeping the modern style of DOA. Finding the right tools for this was exciting but also challenging.
Madness To Creation: What do you see is the biggest downfall of our society?
Kristof: People losing their identity and thinking with other people’s minds instead their own. Following a herd mentality. Living in their own negative shit instead of standing on their own feet.
Madness To Creation: Take us into the very first Dawn of Ashes gig, what are some memories that you have of that gig?
Kristof: Very amateur and not knowing what the fuck we were doing. Doing everything real time without backing tracks. Definitely was interesting.
Madness To Creation: What’s the first thing you want to do when this Covid-19 pandemic is all over?
Madness To Creation: Take yourself now and take yourself to the first record, what advice would you give him?
Kristof: Be patient and think before you pull the trigger.
Madness To Creation: We address mental health awareness in normalizing mental health conversations, what gets you through the tough times and what makes you happy?
Kristof: I have my tools. My spirit. My health. Staying focused and centered. Not fear fucking myself with imaginary conflicts. Knowing that I am powerful and can get through anything.
Madness To Creation: I’m giving you the floor to cover anything we haven’t covered for Dawn Of Ashes.
Kristof: We are filming a new music video on August 16th for the single Sleep Paralysis. Hope those who are in the United States can show up and be in the video.
And there you have it! Check out The Antinomian via Spotify listed above in this conversation!
