Madness To Creation

Where Insanity and Creativity Collide!

(Album Review) “The Death of Me” by POLARIS

3 min read

On February 21st, Australian metal band Polaris released their landmark album entitled “The Death of Me”.  This album is a poignant tale on how we can strip away our old selves and be born anew.

Polaris is composed of Jamie Hails on vocals, Rick Schneider on guitars, Jake Steinhauser on bass, Ryan Siew on guitars and Daniel Furnari on drums.  With this release, they stretched the boundaries of what they have previously learned and that enabled them to be taken to new heights.

The album starts with the song “Pray For Rain”.  The harmonic tones of the guitars, the ambiance and the screams of Jamie lays out the canvas for this masterpiece of an album.  I love how this song patiently builds like you’re reaching the summit of a rollercoaster.  Then, the tempo picks up and Polaris takes you on an exhilarating ride.  The song is also a harrowing tale on how our energy can be depleted if we surround ourselves in a toxic environment.

“Hypermania” seems to be a nod to the legends in Every Time I Die with the tone of the guitars and the Southern metal feel of the song.  “Masochist” allows the listen to peel away yet another layer of the dynamic sound of Polaris as it seems to be a nod to the 2000’s screamo scene, but Polaris puts their own twist to it.

The songs grip at your chest, the energy of the band is impeccable, and Polaris has created what could be the Album Of The Year with “The Death of Me”.  This album is as relentless as a maniac that went off the deep end.  Madness To Creation rates this album a 9 out of 10 stars.  Check out the track listing below:
