Madness To Creation

Where Insanity and Creativity Collide!

(Concert Review) RED Live at Scout Bar in Houston, Texas (10/2/2019)

3 min read

This was the last night of the “I For An I” tour featuring Red.  Red just announced that they will be releasing a new EP in November and they will be providing support for In Flames starting in November on a massive tour!  Red recently performed at the Scout Bar in Houston, Texas on October 2nd.

Scout Bar is a relatively small venue yet packs a punch attracting some of the best local and national touring musicians. As the lights dimmed audio of an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like voice filled the room  instructing the gathering to participate in comedic stretching exercises, calisthenics and jumping jacks. This band’s sense of humor was apparent despite the fact they had yet to step on stage.  Lights abruptly extinguished as simultaneously a volcanic eruption of BASS  so powerful this photo journalist’s hair literally blew back.  A dramatic prelude to offerings promised.

Enter stage left drummer Dan Johnson followed by twin brothers bassist Randy and guitarist Anthony Armstrong then singer Micheal Barnes. Three risers fronted the stage. There was NO pit and NO barrier separating the audience from the band. All became fully fused as one between the band and audience. The brothers book-ended singer Barnes, while drummer extraordinaire Johnson held court over the tight quartet.
Having been deprived of this band my entire existence, this reviewer found herself caught up in the interactivity with their audience while at times forgetting to objectively observe the show.
The gathering knew every song by heart while singing along loudly to “Fight Inside” from the opening. “Confusion (What’s Inside My Head)” also elicited an intense reaction of joy from the masses, while their cover of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World’ was profound.
Experiencing Red is a contrast of heavy music with positive expressions of joy and hopefulness that is unique and very needed in this world.
