Madness To Creation

Where Insanity and Creativity Collide!

(Video Review) “Golden Soul” by Polartropica

2 min read

In a whimsical, strange, and peculiar sort of way, Taiwanese/Los Angeles based space-pop artist Polartropica recently released her music video for “Golden Soul” to the masses.  This video is a doozy to say the least.

This song was inspired by knowing someone who suffers from opioid addiction, which is a growing epidemic in America.  The addiction was further spurned on by anxiety and that unsure feeling when Donald Trump was elected 45th President of the United States.  Polartropica is utilizing this song and music video to spread awareness towards individuals, lawmakers, and pharmaceutical companies to control the spread and usage of opioids.  Personally, I agree with Polartropica that there needs to be some major legislation in regards to this and it needs to be further regulated in order to reduce being dependent on these dangerous drugs.

In this video, it is spacey as all get out.  It feels like a strange psychdelic acid trip as the arrangements of synths and Polartropica’s voice enhances that feeling of that nightmare from the bad trip.  The music is strangely soothing and healing, while having that 90’s space/pop feel to it ala later versions of The Cardigans and Aqua.  The video showcases a feeling of love, while being codependent on what makes them feel good, and that is the opioid.

In a roundabout way, this song is peculiar, yet it works for Polartropica.  This song is meant for that underground following as it has a positive message to go along with the quirky music.  The listener/viewer needs to approach this video with an open mind because it’s completely different in terms of the visual effects to go along with the music.  Madness To Creation rates this video a 7 out of 10 stars, as I would need to listen to more of Polartropica in order to understand her art.  At least I’m intrigued.

On Thursday, August 2nd, Polartropica has a gig at The Satellite in Los Angeles, California.  For tickets and further information, click here.
