Long Beach, CA by way of Austin, TX musician Joshua Logan (aka Chief White Lightning) is excited to announce his self-titled debut full-length studio album – due out July 13th via El Camino Media (sElf, Veruca Salt). The record’s nine tracks were produced by Battleme front-man and label-mate Matt Drenik at Get Loud studio in Portland alongside multi-instrumentalist Jonas Wilson and drummer Paul Pulvirenti (Elliot Smith) – a truly collaborative effort that would culminate in the birth of Chief White Lightning. Logan is also excited to premiere the video for the album’s lead-single “Bleach Blonde Heritage,” which you can check out here.
I wanted no ego. It was just four people in a room making a record. There wasn’t a bad idea. If someone said something, everyone listened. Nobody was talking about what it should sound like. We all came from the same school of rock and roll, so our tastes were meshing. – Joshua Logan
After hooking up with Wilson, Logan started writing with a different delivery. “It was less obvious. It felt like I was writing pop songs from my childhood. I started remembering everything I grew up on. Started getting that feeling.” The result is a collection of songs with strong individual characteristics that come to together to benefit the whole – from Logan’s wild Country howl on tracks like “Down Under” to the The Hives-esque cadence of “City’s Alive,” a post-punk ripper that is currently featured in a national ad campaign for Canon. He originally kicked-off Chief White Lightning a few years back with a handful of singles, seeking a creative outlet that would blend his pop and grunge past with the psych-rock and punk elements that have inspired him since living in Southern California.
Logan’s bigger-than-life personality has always been an important part of his creativity and is now anchored by the custom made Rusty Cuts Nudie suit that he has been rocking as Chief White Lightning since last year – the piece is covered in patches paying tribute to his heritage and the road ahead. He is New Mexican born, however considers Texas his home, especially Austin where he spent nearly half of his life – it’s there that he formed the garage rock trio The Blind Pets in 2007, fronting the band to this day and receiving accolades from the likes of The Fader and Noisey, as well as becoming local favorites at KUTX.

Featuring a chaotic Rube Goldberg sequence set to the song “City’s Alive” by Chief White Lightning, it’s a dazzling, upbeat and ultimately charming ode to perspective. – ADWEEK
