HALFNOISE dropped its new Flowerss EP this past Friday via artist collective Congrats Records. Spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Zac Farro, the release follows the critically acclaimed sophomore LP Sudden Feeling and last year’s The Velvet Face EP. On top of premiering the EP stream with BrooklynVegan last week, HALFNOISE also dropped a vintage-tinged video for its single “She Said,” a track that NPR’sLars Gotrich said “could just as easily appear on a Phoenix record, but has the added benefit of Farro’s aerobic drumming, adding a sparkling snap to its fizz.” The band recently kicked-off its EP release tour in Chicago and will be making stops at select cities across the East Coast this week, including the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY and Songbyrd in Washington, DC, before wrapping at the Exit/In in Nashville on May 13th.
“This time right now around this Flowerss EP is special because it’s not only the music and songs that I’m really proud of, but the collaborative spirit on the project as a whole. HALFNOISE has been my brainchild of sorts for a while but the way friends got involved on this EP was refreshing and inspiring for me. The way we approached making the EP, the vibe in the studio, the art, videos, and everything has been friends encouraging each other to step out and create something meaningful and fun. That’s really the core of what HALFNOISE is and what we are creating with our label, Congrats – friends having fun, encouraging each other, and making art through the process. Feels good to have these songs out, and really, we are just getting started…” – Zac Farro
Never one to rest on his laurels, Zac Farro has had a prolific couple of years – releasing music as HALFNOISE, recording with and rejoining Paramore, directing music videos, honing in on his love for all things film-photography, and co-running Congrats Records with fellow Nashvillians RH and JT. With the Flowerss EP, Zac has expanded HALFNOISE into a full band comprised of his closest friends and collaborators, creating 7-tracks that weave between nostalgic fuzz and contemporary hooks. The FADER calls “All That Love Is” a “swirling track about losing love and feeling some real up and downs” while NYLON, who premiered the title-track, implores you to “Wake up and catch this vibe.” The band’s highly creative output has also drawn glowing press from the likes of Noisey, Paper Magazine, Billboard, What Youth, and Lomography.
