I am trying something new here real quick. This is a last minute addition to how I would book Wrestlemania 34. The main event is Brock Lesnar defending the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. Also, AJ Styles defends the WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura. Here’s how I would book the show!
The kickoff match would be the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I would have it feature superstars from Raw, Smackdown Live, 205 Live, and NXT. I would also throw in a few hall of famers for nostalgic purposes.
How I would book this: Basically, this is the “everybody gets a Wrestlemania payday match”. I would have it to where the winner will receive a title shot at whichever brand they represent at the next PPV. Think about it, in terms of the previous winner, Mojo Rawley, what has he honestly done besides stab Zack Ryder in the back. Bring it back to where they get a title opportunity at the next PPV. Add some luster to the match. For example, at Wrestlemania 24, Kane won a battle royal to face Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Championship. Even if it’s to be the fourth man in a fatal four way for the Intercontinental Championship! Make it mean something!
The next match in the kickoff I would have is Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali for the Cruiserweight Championship.
How I would book this: It has been a storybook type of run for Cedric Alexander. Have it culminate by hitting the lumbar check on Mustafa Ali for the win. Ali pretends to be his friend and raises his hand in victory, then low blows him to solidify a heel turn for Mustafa Ali.
The last match in the kickoff I would have may surprise you. I would have The Miz defend the Intercontinental Championship against Finn Balor and Seth Rollins.
How I would book this: The Miz retains the Intercontinental Championship. Have him go on this hellish heel run where he disrupts everything possible in order to demand attention to be in the main event scene. I mean, he’s a movie star, everyone follows him on Twitter, and he gets mainstream attention because of his MTV’s The Real World show that he was in. The next night on Raw, Finn Balor and Seth Rollins align with The Miz and become dominant like a new Bullet Club type of faction, except this faction demands attention and the spotlight! Think of this, The Miz, Seth Rollins, and Finn Balor disrupt as many main events as possible and eventually the entire roster turns on them.
To start Wrestlemania, I would book the Smackdown Tag Team Championship with The Usos defending against The New Day and The Bludgeon Brothers. I would have The Usos retain when a member of The New Day gets pinned. I would start planting the seeds where there’s frustration within The New Day, because The New Day is getting stale, and The Bludgeon Brothers can remain in the Smackdown Tag Team Title picture.
After this match, I would have the Women’s Battle Royal.
How I would book it: I would have Sasha Banks win the Battle Royal, and in my opinion winning this would have her guaranteed a title shot at the next PPV. I see Sasha Banks completing the heel turn by attacking Bayley afterwards.
Next match I would have is the United States Championship match fatal four way between Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal, Rusev, and Bobby Roode.
How I would book it: Have Rusev become the new United States champion. Rusev is absolutely over, and he should be rewarded for that. Plus, Orton is at the point in his career when he should start putting others over. I agree with putting the United States Championship on him, but it’s time for him to start putting others over and making them look strong. I also see a Roode heel turn to set up Roode vs. Rusev for the United States title. I simply cannot identify with Roode as a face.
Next, I would have the Raw Women’s Championship match with Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax.
How I would book it: Carmella cashes in the briefcase at the most opportune time ala Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania 31 and she steals the victory after Bliss and Jax beat the crap out of each other. It will allow the fans to get behind Jax even more, and Bliss can go to Smackdown at the Superstar Shakeup.
Next match I would book is Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
How I would book it: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon win when Ronda Rousey screws over Kurt Angle, set up Rousey as a heel in the women’s division. It would swerve everyone. Rousey can align herself with them as an enforcer for The Authority in the meantime while she gets continued work.
Next match I would book is the Raw Tag Team Championship with The Bar defending against Braun Strowman and a mystery partner.
How I would book it: The mystery partner is the Big Show. Big Show and Braun Strowman will become the most dominant tag team in history until Big Show turns heel for the 387th time in his career. Big Show and Braun Strowman become new tag team champions.
Next match I would book is Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
How I would book it: Roman Reigns becomes Universal Champion. But Paul Heyman costs Brock Lesnar the match. Paul Heyman does it for job security. Roman Reigns officially turns heel at Wrestlemania.
Next match I would book is Charlotte vs. Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
How I would book it: I’d have Asuka win in dominant fashion. They need to have her be completely dominant, have it almost be a squash, that way Charlotte can say that she strongly underestimated the Empress of Tomorrow.
Next match I would book is Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
How I would book it: In a shocker, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn win with the help of Shane McMahon. Imagine the nuclear heat they would get. Have Owens and Zayn be McMahon’s henchmen, this would set up Bryan vs. McMahon at Summerslam and let the crowd know that Bryan is a special attraction, not a full-time wrestler. I think Daniel Bryan has elevated himself to where he can be a special attraction wrestler instead of appearing every single week. Just my opinion.
Lastly, AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.
How I would book it: Nakamura wins in an instant classic. Make this a one time only match and give them 35 to 40 minutes to tear the house down! Have them embrace ala Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 6. Then, Nakamura can feud with Zayn and Owens for the WWE Championship. Have Nakamura hold it for a year and have him face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship as mentor vs. student.
Lastly, John Cena comes out and The Undertaker finally accepts the match. They have a great match where The Undertaker wins. They both announce their retirement and have the show truly close with The Undertaker and John Cena riding off into the sunset. The Undertaker retires for good and Cena will be relegated to special attraction status where he only appears at Summerslam and Wrestlemania.
