MTC’s A2Z Reviews: Featuring Ireland’s The Academic!

For a band that is just getting noticed, Ireland’s The Academic could be on the “watch list” for 2018, especially with their sound that is comparable to The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand.  They have already shared the stage with legendary experimental rockers The Pixies and they are prepared to release their debut full-length record entitled “Tales From The Backseat” in January 2018.

The Academic is composed of Craig Fitzgerald, Stephen Murtagh, Matt Murtagh, and Dean Gavin.  They have released a critically acclaimed EP entitled “Loose Friends” in 2015.  Their video for “Bear Claws” has already received almost two million hits on YouTube due to it’s unique looping style of video, which was debuted on Facebook Live.

“Bear Claws” by The Academic

Madness To Creation’s take:  With their eclectic musicianship and experimental offerings in their indie-rock style of music, The Academic could go places in terms of television and radio placement in 2018.  They have a very catchy sound, yet their arrangements in their music is pretty intricate.  They do offer a quite unique sound in this genre, and one can tell that they are pretty influenced by The Pixies meets The Strokes.  Based on their “Loose Friends” EP, it’s easy to see why that there is hype on the upcoming release “Tales From The Backseat”.  I give The Academic a solid 7.5 out of 10 stars.
