“True View” by Stick To Your Guns, 3 Feet Closer to a Sledgehammer to the Chest

4 min read

Pearls of wisdom.  Staying true to your roots.  Taking a good long look at the reflection in the mirror while doing some serious soul searching is what Stick To Your Guns did in “True View”.  This record is out now via Pure Noise Records.

“True View” starts off with the whimsical, introspective yet gut-wrenching track entitled “3 Feet From Peace”.  Based upon the interview with Alternative Press Magazine, the voicemail, which is the intro of the track was actually from the vocalist’s mother.  As I listened carefully to the words in an attempt to digest the content of said voicemail, I quickly realized that the voicemail set the tone for one of the most serious soul searching records that Stick To Your Guns have done to this date.

“True View” then blazes a trail from a road less traveled into a track entitled “The Sun, The Moon, The Truth:  Penance of Self”, which is yet another track of self-reflection and introspection.  I can only imagine what the songwriter went through as he was penning this track as you feel the words that he screams, you feel the gang vocals quake in your soul, as the rhythm that Stick To Your Guns should have trademarked pulsates throughout your body and give you that feeling that you are getting ready to conquer the most unconquerable challenges ever formulated.

“Married To The Noise” is a song that today’s generation can all relate to.  It is a call to arms that has such a soaring and anthem-filled chorus that tugs at your chest and becomes the creed of the faithful to Stick To Your Guns.  Check out the music video below!

“Delinelle” is yet another personal track from Stick To Your Guns.  For some reason, the lyric “I lost track of who I was”, hit me like a ton of bricks.  Here is a hardcore band that personifies the beauty of hardcore in this track, and that is staying true to yourself and never giving in no matter what challenges you may face in your life.

Stick To Your Guns once again recreate the blueprint on how to create modern hardcore music that is appealing to fans all across metal.  There is enough melody for a singalong in several tracks, there are the gang vocals, that make you want to scream to the heavens those words, and there are those hardcore breakdowns that make the sound memorable.  Stick To Your Guns probably released their most “artsy” record to this date yet staying true to their roots. What is especially impressive is how this album is put together as a story, about eventually finding forgiveness for yourself and forgiving the past.  What a positive message sent out by this hardcore outfit! This is a solid 8.5/10 star album for the aforementioned reasons.
