Cover vs. Original Triple Threat Edition: Johnny Cash and Sevendust both cover “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails

Today’s Cover vs. Original edition showcases a song where I would argue the cover is more famous than the original.  Johnny Cash, who wrote absolutely brilliant music throughout his storied career, covered “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails.  The cover was so well received that it even was mentioned for the MTV Video Music Awards.  Sevendust also covered it, although their cover is much more forgotten on their live unplugged album “Southside Double Wide Acoustic Live” album.  Sevendust covered it, in what seemed like an impromptu session after learning about Johnny Cash’s death.  I will show you the Nine Inch Nails version first.

Here is Johnny Cash’s version:

Here is Sevendust’s live version taken from their double disc live acoustic album!
