Secret Space Debut Music Video for “Safety Not Guaranteed”

Toledo-based alternative band Secret Space has released the third single from their forthcoming album The Window Room Part 2; Lost in a Dream (out today), a reimagined and stripped down version of their debut album on Equal Vision Records. “Safety Not Guaranteed” is a special bonus song that did not originally appear on the first incarnation of The Window Room, but was recently written out of a need for a softer opener in their live set (the video originally premiered with Toledo.com).

The song came to fruition while we were on our full US tour with Anthony Green and Mat Kerekes this past fall. We usually start our set with ‘PxCz,’ which has a pretty loud and abrasive guitar lead, but since we were opening for two acoustic acts we wanted an opener that would ease the crowd into our set,” says guitarist/vocalist Dean Tartaglia. “We wrote ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ very differently than any song up until that point. Since we were on the road we all came up with the arrangement collaboratively, which has became the basis for how we have written our new songs since then. Lyrically, the song is pretty simple, about a road trip I went on a few years ago, which obviously fits the vibe of embarking on a tour. Moreover, to me the song is all about the adventure and uncertainty that comes with travel, and using the experience as a period of growth and discovery.

The original version of The Window Room was released last June on Equal Vision Records and was produced by Will Yip (Circa Survive, Citizen, Turnover). This time around, the band kept it in-house, having drummer Steve Warstler produce the record in his new studio “The Master Bedroom,” focusing on one production style and one vibe. Tartaglia and company will play a few select dates in NY with Envy on the Coast before Tartaglia branches out on an 11-date solo run in support of the new record.
